15. IS THERE NEGATIVE MARKING?

Yes.

The notification provides for negative marking in the written examination, with one-fourth of the marks assigned to a question deducted for each wrong answer, subject to the examination rules stated in the notification.

Therefore, candidates should avoid blind guessing.

The prescribed fee is:

General candidates: ₹600

SC/ST-1/ST-2/PwBD/EWS: ₹500

The application is submitted online.

17. HOW DO YOU APPLY?

The application process is online only.

11. Save/print the submitted application for future use.

The Board states that the detailed instructions regarding the online application portal will be made available separately on its website.

18. CAN YOU APPLY FOR MULTIPLE POSTS?

The notification allows candidates to indicate the items for which they are applying, depending on their preference and eligibility.

However, candidates must carefully check the eligibility requirements for each item.

Final allotment against advertised posts/services/cadre is based on merit-cum-preferences, as prescribed in the notification.

So you should not select a post merely because it has a lower qualification requirement. You must actually satisfy the prescribed conditions.

19. WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE IMPORTANT?

Candidates should keep their documents ready, particularly:

  • J&K Domicile Certificate
  • Educational certificates
  • Marksheets
  • Technical/Diploma certificates
  • Category certificate, where applicable

Candidates claiming reservation must have a valid category certificate in the prescribed format.

The relevant certificate must satisfy the cut-off-date requirements.

The notification warns that invalid, fake, fraudulent or improperly formatted certificates can result in rejection and other action under applicable rules.

Therefore, reserved-category candidates should check their certificates before submitting the application.

21. WHAT IF YOUR QUALIFICATION IS DIFFERENT?

This is very important.

If your qualification does not match the qualification prescribed for the particular post, you should not assume that a similar qualification will automatically be accepted.

The notification states that candidates with qualifications other than those prescribed may be declared ineligible and their candidature can be rejected.

If you claim an equivalent qualification where equivalence is applicable, the relevant equivalence certificate may be required.

22. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE EXAM?

The general process is:

Online Application → Written/OMR Examination → Merit/Shortlisting → Document Verification → Final Selection/Appointment

The candidate’s documents are verified before the appointment is finalized.

The Board has the authority to determine matters concerning eligibility, applications, examinations, results, merit lists and other recruitment-related issues according to the notification.

23. IMPORTANT POINT ABOUT 518 VACANCIES

The 518 vacancies should not automatically be treated as permanently fixed.

JKSSB specifically states that the actual number of posts may increase or decrease during or before completion of the selection process.

Therefore, candidates should always rely on the latest official JKSSB update.

24. WHAT SHOULD A CANDIDATE DO NOW?

If you are planning to apply, I recommend this order:

STEP 1 — CHECK YOUR DOMICILE

Make sure you have the required J&K Domicile Certificate.

STEP 2 — CHECK YOUR AGE

Calculate your age according to 01 January 2026, not the application date.

STEP 3 — CHECK YOUR QUALIFICATION

STEP 4 — CHECK CATEGORY

If you are applying under a reserved category, verify your certificate.

STEP 5 — CHECK DOCUMENTS

Keep your educational and technical certificates ready.

STEP 6 — PREPARE FOR THE WRITTEN EXAM

Since the recruitment is based on written/OMR examination merit for the advertised posts, examination preparation should start early.
