Science & Society Lecture Series began at IUST

Awantipora, 14 January: As part of activities in connecting science with society, lecture sequence on Science & Society has been began by Mantaqi Centre for Science & Society, Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST), Awantipora. The primary talk held online titled:




Astronomy: An Exciting Science, was delivered by Prof Naseer Iqbal, Professor of Physics & Registrar, IUST on 11 January 2021. The talk was organized in affiliation with Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA), IUST, Awantipora. Prof. Naseer in the beginning gave a short overview concerning the activities IUST is taking in reaching out to the society. Throughout his PowerPoint presentation, he gave an outline of the origin of Universe and various features and elements of Astronomy. He talked about that universe is every little thing round us, both visible and invisible. Whereas correlating many different sciences with astronomy like biology, chemistry, physics, he deliberated that astronomy is an oldest, entertaining, non-threatening and accessible science. He through light on many features of astronomy and cosmology like cosmic evolution, space, time, matter, supernova, black hole, big bang, vitality, dark matter, and so forth. He linked astronomy throughout historical times when there have been no telescopes and different technological devices with the modern astronomy outfitted with excessive end applied sciences and services. Prof. Naseer highlighted the prevalence of astronomical evidences from many locations of Kashmir like Burzuhama. There are various challenges in finding out the science of astronomy and more & more initiatives with centered analysis must be taken on this course, he stated. Dr. Aijaz Ahmad Qureshi, Research Officer and Organizing Secretary who in the beginning gave a short profile of Prof. Naseer Iqbal, introduced vote of thanks. He thanked Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Prof. Mushtaq A. Siddiqi for his encouragement and DIQA, Public Relations, Directorate of IT& SS, media houses, individuals, supporting employees, IUST fraternity, and others for their support in efficiently organizing the occasion. On the finish, there was a question and answer secession.
